New Playroom

I've been consumed for a few years by care for my parents, so writing has fallen by the wayside. In and for my heart, this has become a great thing. No longer do I labor under a burden of making money for Tim's and my retirement. Even though we're not wealthy, we're doing okay.

At this point I can play with sentences, with ideas (what I've usually done, anyway). I found a new room on the internet to do so, and I moved my stuff from here over there, to Substack.

In a bit I'll probably delete my Blogger account. Of course none of this will happen on a linear schedule. I wrote a little the other day about my fluid approach to projects. It was fun.

I hope all of you bloggy folk are well and enjoying what you get to do.

Just ticking along here, caring now for my husband who has cancer for a second time. Trying to get back to making, inching closer..but writing keeps me going

Substack looks interesting..but can you read it for free?

P.S. I tried to leave a comment on substack but I have to create an account. Free, but I just at this moment, I feel fatigued at the idea of creating one more account!

This is what I commented:
I wish I could ask you to drive me to Dairy Queen in real life, Deanna! (I mean, we live too far away for that to happen.)
I too have been looking at old family photos and thinking about history... You couldn't make some of this stuff up!!! I like creative nonfiction too---blogging suits me.
See ya soon online?

P.S. Can you say why you prefer substack? Im interested.
I've thought about moving blogsites--mostly to stop supporting Google, which is like Amazon--but I have too much history here, and as evils of the world go, using Google's free blog site doesn't really bother me that much.

Hi, gz: It's great to hear from you. Yes, Substack is free, but I notice they make it look in some ways like it's not. I'm not asking for paid subscriptions, and I like it best when friends just email me with comments. As long as that's easy to do...

I'm expecting to have time now to check in with friends' blogs more often. :)

Take care, with all you have on your plate these days.

Hello Fresca!

It's been great to look in on your blog the past few days, as I hadn't done any such thing for a while. I see your comments are turned off, but this brings me to why I like substack: it sends out emails automatically to subscribers. And they can "easily" respond. I'm determined to try and avoid buttons and so forth in the future. I don't understand half of the efforts made to "help" writers promote themselves (not that there's anything wrong with that).

Thank you for emailing; let's hear it for old-school social-media-izing!

I expect to be a part of that in days to come.

Thanks for commenting back--and, even better, emailing! I did sign onto your email notifications at substack.
Yes, I far prefer emails--comments are often slight (even meaningless, except to say they've been there--like hitting "heart" on Instagram--not that there's anything wrong with that :) )--and many commenters don't even check back to see if you've responded. Frustrating to me.
